Workers exempt from close contact

Workers identified as essential staff under the Tasmanian Government’s temporary exemption from close contact quarantine are not eligible for the Australian Government’s Pandemic Leave Disaster Payment for being a close contact. However, they are eligible for the payment if they:

  • are caring for someone who has COVID, or
  • need a negative RAT to return to work but must remain in isolation as they are not able to get a RAT.

Exempt workers are eligible for assistance for the Pandemic Isolation Assistance Grant for close contacts, however other criteria still apply. This includes being able to demonstrate they have lost work and income due to the need to quarantine or care for someone who must quarantine.
