Testing as soon as symptoms start is also highly important for people who are eligible for antiviral medicine to treat COVID-19 and flu, as medication must be started as quickly as possible after symptoms commence.

Where to get a PCR test:

  • State-operated PCR Testing Clinics (drive through) in Hobart, Launceston and Devonport– this option is free. From 9 August, everyone who is tested at a state-operate PCR clinic will be tested for COVID-19, Influenza A, Influenza B and Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV). The lab will test for all four illnesses using the single swab taken from you at the testing clinic. You cannot choose which viruses you are tested for.
  • GP-led Respiratory Clinics in a general practice setting in Hobart, Launceston and St Helens – this option is free but requires a booking.
  • Your local GP clinic may offer COVID-19, flu or RSV testing – GPs may charge a consultation fee.
