Caring for the Tasmanian community through COVID

09 Jan 2022

Peter Gutwein, Premier

The Tasmanian Government will continue to support the Tasmanian community including those who are vulnerable as well as workers and businesses as we navigate our way through the challenges of COVID and the Omicron variant.

We understand that many people and businesses are concerned about cases in the community but it is important to note that Tasmania is one of the most vaccinated places in the world and this will continue to be our best defence.

The Government has provided nation-leading support throughout the pandemic and this will continue to be the case.

For employees identified as a close contact who need to isolate and don’t have available leave, or if you are a casual employee with no leave, there is support available.

If you need to get a test, or get vaccinated, or support someone to do so – such as a dependent or someone you care for – you can access financial support of $250 or $1,000 per household, if eligible, to cover lost income.

You can also receive up to $750 from Services Australia or the State Government pandemic isolation grant of $750 if you are a positive case or need to isolate as a close contact.

The Government is also developing a community care package for vulnerable Tasmanians which will ensure that all people continue to have access to masks, food and testing.

For businesses, there is no greater supporter of the business community than the Tasmanian Liberal Government, and as we have always said, the Government remains committed to ongoing support when and where it is needed.

Grants of between $750 and $1,500 are available now for financial or business guidance services from qualified specialists or consultants to assist small businesses formulate strategies to overcome the impacts of COVID.

In addition to these grants, a targeted financial support package for businesses impacted during our current outbreak is currently being developed.

Further details on the community care and business support packages will be announced later next week.

The health and safety of Tasmanians remains our number one priority as we continue to live with COVID in our community and the Tasmanian Liberal Government will stand by every Tasmanian to provide the necessary care and support during these challenging times.
