COVID-19 Vaccination Update - Bookings are open for over 50s

01 May 2021

Kathrine Morgan-Wicks, State Health Commander

All Tasmanians over 50 can now get a COVID 19 Vaccination.

State Health Commander, Kath Morgan-Wicks, today announced “All Tasmanians who are 50 years old or over are eligible to book a COVID 19 Vaccination.

From Monday 3 May GP respiratory clinics and State Community Clinics will be vaccinating any Tasmanian in this age group. These clinics have plenty of appointments available, so we encourage you to book now”.

“The more Tasmanians who get vaccinated the more protected our community as a whole will be,” Ms Morgan-Wicks said.

The Vaccines approved by the Therapeutic Goods Administration for use in Australia are safe, effective and are being provided free of charge.

The Vaccines have been shown to reduce the symptoms of COVID 19, particularly severe symptoms that might cause long-term damage to your health or in severe cases, death.

Over 5,000 appointments are available in State Government Community Clinics for Tasmanians aged 50 years and over during May. A new community clinic will be opening in Huonville from next week. More locations for state clinics, including additional Pfizer clinics for eligible Tasmanians aged under 50 years will be announced soon.

As at last night, over 14% of Tasmanians over 16 years old have received at least their first vaccine dose.

As at 30 April 2021 the State Government clinics have delivered 38,100 doses, and as at 29 April 2021 the 96 GP clinics have delivered 30,869 doses and the Commonwealth roll out in Aged Care has delivered 7488 Doses.

The total number of doses delivered in Tasmania is 76,457.

State Community Clinics are located at: Kingston, New Norfolk, Brighton, Mowbray, Deloraine, Wynyard and Huonville.
