  • Evidence of suitable premises (or apply for hotel quarantine – fees apply)
  • Declaration that you will not travel without returning a negative result from a COVID-19 rapid antigen test taken in the 24 hours prior to departure or PCR test taken in the 72 hours prior to departure to Tasmania (this applies for all travellers aged five years and older).

You will not be approved to enter unless you provide evidence of a negative result from a test taken in the 72 hours prior to departure.

If your application is approved, you will receive confirmation via your Tas e-Travel account that includes the conditions you must comply with eg testing, quarantine.

Additional conditions and requirements are in place for any traveller who has spent time in an extreme-risk area.

Entry conditions

If you are approved to enter Tasmania, you will be required to quarantine for up to 14 days in a suitable premises on arrival. If a suitable premises is not available, you will be required to quarantine at a government-managed facility (fees apply).

Approved unvaccinated travellers must meet arrival conditions including:

  • arrive at approved entry points
  • quarantine in suitable premises or a government-managed facility if suitable premises are not available
  • minimum five days quarantine but up to 14 days (dependent on results of required testing)
  • a COVID-19 rapid antigen test or PCR test on day five of your arrival in Tasmania

If you receive a negative result from your day five test, you can leave quarantine.

You can apply for an exemption from quarantine if your travel is for essential reasons. If approved, conditions will apply.

Unapproved arrivals

If you arrive in Tasmania without approval, you will be directed to enter quarantine at a government-managed facility while your application is assessed. If it is not approved, you will be directed to leave the State. Fines may also apply.

Processing of applications is prioritised based on arrival date.

Plan for these aspects of your travel:

  • There are costs involved in quarantine in a government-managed facility - check the fees and payment timeframes, and process for exemption.
  • Don’t book travel until you get confirmation of your arrival date, as you may not be offered a place in quarantine on the exact day requested.
  • You will need to have returned a negative COVID-19 test result prior to departure.

Be aware Tasmania’s border restrictions and entry requirements could change at short notice. This may impact your eligibility to enter Tasmania.

If at any stage you decide you no longer need to travel to Tasmania, please cancel your application.
