On arrival in Tasmania, arrangements will be made for your transport to the government-managed quarantine facility.

While in mandatory quarantine you must stay within your room.
Provisions will be made to ensure that your basic needs are met while you are in a government-managed quarantine facility.
You will be provided with additional information about arrangements for your quarantine, including food, medical and other assistance, upon your arrival in Tasmania.
If you have needs which are not being met through the information provided to you in your room, please contact the hotel reception.
During this time you will not be able to have visitors and must not leave the room. You will be able to communicate with your family and friends via phone and social media while in quarantine.
Penalties will apply for breaches of the quarantine requirement.
Any traveller in quarantine at a government-managed quarantine facility must comply with directions provided by authorised officers during the quarantine period. Additionally you must remain in the room provided for the quarantine period specified unless approved by an authorised officer to leave your room, in which case you must wear a face mask at all times when away from your room – exemptions can apply, see section 2ii. Directions in Relation to Persons Arriving in Tasmania for more details.
If you are experiencing life threatening medical symptoms please call Triple Zero (000) and advise them of your condition and that you are currently in quarantine.

If possible, contact a family friend or relative to collect your vehicle. If this is not possible please liaise with the hotel reception who will work with authorities to facilitate appropriate arrangements. You will be responsible for the cost of parking incurred before your return to Tasmania.
Car at TT-Line
Vehicles will be secured in a facility at the wharf in Devonport. Travellers will be taken to the quarantine facility (either locally or in Launceston) by bus. Arrangements will be made to return people to their vehicles at the end of the 14 day quarantine period.
Non-Tasmanian and Tasmanian residents entering mandatory government-managed accommodation are required to pay a fee from 31 July 2020 (see below).
All families who have spent time in medium or high risk areas, or who have disembarked from international or cruise ship travel, or who are symptomatic of COVID-19, will be required to quarantine in government-managed accommodation.
Unaccompanied minors from high risk areas may quarantine in their normal residence. If an unaccompanied minor has spent time overseas or on a cruise ship within 28 days of arriving in Tasmania, the Deputy State Controller must approve their quarantine location (through G2G PASS).
Meals will be provided to your room.
Consideration will be given to food requirements based on specific dietary needs, cultural restrictions and personal preference.
You are welcome to use delivery take away services such as Uber Eats or other take away delivery at your own cost so long as it is “no-contact delivery”. This means your driver can drop your food off without seeing you for example, at your hotel door or at your hotel reception. You must advise your hotel reception if you are expecting a delivery.
If you need to access other medical care that is not directly related to coronavirus symptoms, please contact HealthDirect on 1800 022 222. Please tell your HealthDirect operator that you are currently in quarantine in government-managed accommodation. If you are advised through HealthDirect that you need emergency care you should immediately dial Triple Zero (000) and advise of your condition as well as the fact you are in quarantine.
If your need for medical care is non-urgent but still requires GP access within the 14 days that you are in quarantine, please contact the hotel reception who will liaise with the appropriate authorities to make necessary arrangements. Your accommodation provider will provide one laundry service free of charge during your 14-day quarantine. You may choose to purchase additional laundry services, however this will be at your own cost.
You may ask family or friends to drop clean clothes at reception for you. Please advise reception if you are expecting a delivery.
If your hotel has in-room laundry facilities you may use these. Speak to your hotel reception to access detergent.
Fresh linen will be provided by the accommodation provider, but left at your door. You will be required to change your linen in your room.
If you intend to travel to Tasmania with a pet, and you are required to undertake 14 days quarantine in government-managed accommodation, you will need to make arrangements for your pets prior to entering the state.
Such arrangements may be to have a friend or relative collect them on arrival or arrange for them to be collected and cared for by a boarding kennel. Such arrangements should be finalised before commencing your travel. Travellers are responsible for any costs associated with the transport or boarding of pets.
You will be contacted directly and offered testing at your accommodation on days 5 and 12 of your quarantine period.
You will not be able to have visitors and must not leave the room.
Who does this apply to?
People entering 14 days quarantine in a government-managed quarantine facility are required to pay a fee towards the cost of their quarantine.
If quarantining at a premises other than government-managed quarantine facility, a quarantine fee does not apply.
How much is the fee?
All people undertaking quarantine in a government-managed quarantine facility are required to pay $2,800 per person.
A reduced rate is payable for each additional person, for example, for couples and families.
Accommodation will be charged at the following rates:
- Single person: $2,800
- Additional adult: $1,000
- Child: $500
There will be no charge for children under three (3) years of age, and accommodation charges will be capped at $4,800.

People who were undertaking 14 days quarantine in a government-managed quarantine facility prior to the introduction of fees on 31 July 2020 are not required to pay.
People can apply to have the fee waived or reduced in limited specific circumstances such as in the case of financial hardship, or where travel is for the purpose of seeking essential medical treatment interstate (see below).
When will I receive the invoice?
You will receive your invoice after you have completed your stay in a government-managed quarantine facility. Your invoice will be sent either electronically or via mail.
How long do I have to pay?
You will have 30 days from the date of the invoice to make payment.
How do I pay?
The invoice will list the payment options, which include BPay, cheque, IVR (automated credit card payment), or in person at Service Tasmania or Australia Post.
Detailed instructions will be provided on your invoice.
Can I apply for an exemption?
If you are unable to pay the fees, or there are relevant circumstances that you think should be considered, you can apply to have your hotel quarantine fees waived or reduced by 50 per cent. You will need to provide evidence to support your claim for the fee to be waived or reduced.
The categories under which you can apply to have your fees waived or reduced are on the basis of:
- Financial hardship: To be granted an exemption on the basis of financial hardship, an applicant must provide evidence that they are either having difficulty meeting their current financial obligations, or that a requirement to pay the fees would cause them financial hardship.
- Compassionate circumstances: This category would apply where a person needs to travel for compassionate reasons, for example, needs to travel to provide care for a friend or relative, an end of life visit or to attend a funeral.
- Medical treatment: Where people are eligible for assistance under the Tasmanian Government’s Patient Travel Assistance Scheme due to needing to travel interstate for medical treatment that cannot be provided in Tasmania, they will receive an automatic waiver of hotel quarantine fees.
- Other exceptional circumstances: These might include circumstances where a person is required to travel to attend a court case or has another important reason to enter the State.
For example - having difficulty meeting their current financial obligations; or liability to pay for hotel quarantine would result in financial hardship.
For example – need to travel to care for a sick relative or to attend a funeral for an immediate family member
For example –Tasmanian resident needed to travel interstate to access a specialist medical service that is not available in the State.

How do I apply for an exemption?
An online application form is available to apply for a waiver or reduction of fees.
If you do not have internet access, you can request a paper based form by contacting the Public Health Hotline on 1800 671 738. Paper based forms are also available from the Government Liaison Officer at your ggovernment-managed quarantine facility.
If you have already completed your quarantine period in a government-managed quarantine facility and would like to apply for an exemption, you can fill out the Tasmanian Hotel Quarantine Payment Scheme Application – Waiver or Reduction of Fees online form or contact the Public Health Hotline (1800 671 738) for a paper based form.
When can I apply for an exemption?
You can apply for a waiver or reduction of fees either before you travel to Tasmania, while you are in hotel quarantine or after you receive your invoice.
If you apply for a waiver or reduction of fees before you travel, it is important to note that this decision is separate to the G2G PASS process. If you are within a category that is required to seek pre-approval from the Deputy State Controller prior to travel, a decision about quarantine fees does not have any bearing on your application for approval to enter Tasmania.
Applications are prioritised according to proposed travel date and those submitted far in advance are unlikely to be processed earlier than two weeks before travel, due to the possibility of changing border restrictions.
What evidence do I need to provide to demonstrate financial hardship or medical grounds?
Examples of evidence for financial hardship may include: Centrelink payment statement; Low Income Health Care Card; debt agreement; notice of bankruptcy; or an official eviction notice.
For compassionate circumstances, evidence may include a statutory declaration outlining the relevant circumstances, a death certificate or a funeral notice.
For medical reasons, supporting documents may include evidence that your travel was eligible for the Tasmanian Government’s Patient Travel Assistance Scheme or a certificate from your general practitioner (GP) advising that interstate medical treatment was required.
For other exceptional circumstances, relevant evidence will vary depending on the circumstances but may include a statutory declaration detailing the circumstances with supporting evidence.
How will I be notified about the outcome of my fee exemption application?
You will be emailed a letter advising you of the outcome of your application.
Can I appeal if my decision is rejected?
You can re-submit an application for reconsideration if you believe there is relevant information that wasn’t originally considered. Please provide all relevant information when submitting your application.
You must stay in quarantine for 14 nights to complete the full quarantine period unless otherwise directed.
Depending on your circumstances, the quarantine period commences:
- from the date you arrived in Tasmania from a medium or high-risk area; or
- from the date you identified you had spent time in a medium or high-risk premises; or
- from the date you last had exposure to a confirmed case of COVID-19.
If you are in mandatory quarantine at government-managed quarantine facility, you can check out of the accommodation on the 15th day of quarantine. The Government Liaison Officer at the hotel will be able to provide advice on the check out time.
If you are required to have two tests, and have not been tested, you may be directed to quarantine for a further 10 days or until you undertake a COVID-19 test.
Public Health Services will contact you on day 10 to check if you have any symptoms.
If you develop any signs or symptoms of COVID-19 after leaving quarantine, you should call the Public Health Hotline on 1800 671 738 or your GP. Tell them about your symptoms and that you have recently been in quarantine.
