Flu and COVID-19 vaccinations
The Tasmanian Government is expanding the flu vaccination program by providing free flu vaccine to GPs and pharmacists. This means from 6 June to 6 July, everyone aged 6 months and over can get a free flu vaccination at:
- GPs and state-run community clinics – all age groups 6 months and over
- Participating pharmacies – all age groups 10 years and over.
Speak to your GP, healthcare provider or local pharmacist to book an appointment. Normal Medicare arrangements apply for GP consultations.
State-run community clinics are delivering both COVID-19 and Influenza (flu) vaccinations in all regions. This means you can go to the one location and receive the following vaccinations:
- COVID-19 Pfizer paediatric (for children aged 5-11 years)
- COVID-19 Pfizer adult (for people aged 12+)
- COVID-19 Pfizer boosters (for people aged 16+)
- COVID-19 Pfizer boosters (for adolescents aged 12-15 years who are severely immunocompromised, live with disability and significant/complex health needs, and those who have complex health and/or multiple health conditions which increase the risk of severe COVID-19)
- Influenza (for people aged 6 months+) Read more information on flu (Influenza)..
Bookings are preferred at community clinics however walk-ins are welcome. Book a vaccination appointment online or call 1800 671 738. If you are booking online and have already been vaccinated at a state-run clinic, select “Already registered” in the top right-hand corner of the booking page to access your account.

Community childhood flu vaccinations
Children aged 6 months and over can be vaccinated at community vaccination clinics as well as at GPs and some council immunisation clinics. Participating pharmacies can vaccinate children aged 10 years and over. Parents or guardians will need to complete and sign a Consent Form for each child getting vaccinated. If you have your child’s Personal Health Record (also known as a ‘blue book’), bring this along to the clinic where the immunising team will update the vaccination record. For children under 6 months, we encourage you and your family to get a flu shot. When your child turns 6 months, bring them along to a clinic or go to your GP to get them vaccinated.
Getting vaccinated after testing positive
You need to wait three months after testing positive to COVID-19 before getting your next dose of COVID-19 vaccine. Your next scheduled dose should be given as soon as possible after this period. This is because a longer gap between infection and vaccination is likely to lead to longer protection from infection.
Boosters
A third (booster) dose is recommended for anyone aged 16 years and over and who has had a second dose at least three months ago. You need to wait three months after testing positive to COVID-19 before getting your next dose of COVID-19 vaccine. Read more about boosters and third primary doses. including new booster advice for adolescents aged 12-15 years.
Both the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines are recommended for this winter dose. To get an appointment for a second booster, ring the Public Health Hotline on 1800 671 738. You are unable to book a winter dose appointment online. You will need to provide evidence that you are eligible and that your last booster was at least four months ago when you go to your appointment.
